Actually, today was much like every other day. I worked in the morning. Inspected some more node rooms. I went to dance class. That was alot of fun. We danced swing and then salsa.
After class, I picked up the kids. We went out for pizza at Antonios. As we sat there eating pizza, I noticed a man looking through the garbage cans outside. He picked out a couple of half-eaten pizza crusts. I thought about giving him money.
When the time came to leave, I was ready to go to Starbucks for some latte. So, the kids and I ventured out down the street. I saw that man again, eating the tossed out pizza. I said "wait a minute, kids." I reached in my wallet and got all the money I had - $5.
"Excuse me," I said to the man. "Can I buy you a slice of pizza?"
Posted by elsie at May 1, 2003 07:28 PMWhat a nice thing to do. I gave a guy $1 once. He looked very surprised and almost didn't take it even though he asked for it. Two days later, I saw him in Bueno. He didn't say a thing to me.
Posted by: Elliott at May 1, 2003 08:22 PMI wanted to know what happened after. Did he take it? Was he happy? Did he smell? NEEEEEED details. Over all, it was a nice story, heart worming if you will...
Posted by: B at May 1, 2003 09:26 PMYeah, I agree with B. Please share the end of the story. That was a very nice thing to do, but you left us hanging!!
Posted by: Urgo at May 1, 2003 11:48 PMHe was kinda old. His clothes were torn and tattered. There was a huge rip in the back of his faded jeans. He really needed a shave and a haircut. I didn't smell anything, like alcohol or B.O.
I had been reluctant to approach him at first. Luckily, he was polite and accepted the money graciously.
"Thanks. I found this in the trash," he said as he showed me the pizza crust.
"I know," I said. "Throw it away."
I wondered if he would really spend the money on pizza. He threw the old crust away.
