It's Almost Over

The semester is ending soon. The last day of classes will be December 13th. Then finals. The Christmas season is coming, too. It's time to think about getting a Christmas Tree. And presents.

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse; The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there.

The children were nestled all snug in their beds, while visions of sugarplums danced in their heads; and Mama in her kerchief and I in my cap, had just settled down for a long winter's nap.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter. Away to the window I flew like a flash, tore open the shutters, and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow, gave the luster of mid-day to objects below. When what to my wondering eyes should appear, but a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer. With a little old driver, so lively and quick, I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.

More rapid than eagles, his coursers they came, and he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name: "Now, Dasher! Now, Dancer!, Now Prancer and Vixen! On, Comet! On, Cupid!, On,Donner and Blitzen! To the top of the porch! To the top of the wall! Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!!"

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly, when they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky. So up to the housetop the coursers they flew, with a sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas, too. And then in a twinkling, I heard on the roof, the prancing and pawing of each little hoof.

As I drew in my hand and was turning around, down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound. He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot, and his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot. A bundle of toys he had flung on his back, and he looked like a peddler just opening his pack.

His eyes - how they twinkled! His dimples, how merry! His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry! His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow, And the beard on his chin was as white as the snow; The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth, and the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath;

He had a broad face and a little round belly, that shook when he laughed, like a bowl full of jelly. He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf, and I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself. A wink of his eye, and a twist of his head, soon led me to know I had nothing to dread.

He spoke not a word, but went staight to his work, and filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk. And, laying a finger aside of his nose, giving a nod, up the chimney he rose;

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle, and away they all flew like the down of a thistle. But, I heard him exclaim as he drove out of sight,

"Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!"

It's Today!

It's today! It's today! What am I gonna do, nothing? What am I gonna do? Nothing. Something? Something. I'm gonna do something!

The Future of the Human Race

...is in jeopardy. I'm watching a movie right now. Because I can. Well, I really do have to read some french because, well, reading french is hard. Really. I mean, unless you are french. J'espère qu'il neige bientôt. Je veux faire un bonhomme de neige.

Then I Woke Up

The yard was muddy. The grass was covered with leaves. I thought, I don't want anyone to see the yard like this. I decided to rake. As I raked, the yard began to look better. I could see the green grass more and more. At some point, the grass became covered in a foot of snow. I continued raking, trying to smooth the snow in an even surface. I formed a little mountain, and I made a path for the people who were trying to walk through. My mom and brother were there, but they didn't help. I didn't mind the work, though. It was kinda fun. In fact, it felt effortless. The snow wasn't even cold.

Une Vie de Chien

À quelque chose malheur est bon. Qui ne dit mot consent. Les jours se suivent et ne se ressemblent pas. L'arbre cache souvent la forêt. Mieux vaut tard que jamais. Tout est bien qui finit bien.

The Twelfth Day of November

Today has been an ordinary day. So far... I had a cup of tea for breakfast, went to my classes, met with my attorney. After another class I went home, ate leftovers for dinner (buffalo chicken wrap, fries). Now I plan on doing my Stats homework. I'm so glad it's friday. I'm thinking I might take in a movie this weekend. We'll see.

Holiday

No school today, it is veterans day. Emily explained that today is the day we honor people who have come back from war. She's a smart kid. What they don't tell her is about the people who don't come back from war. Today is their day, too.

4 More Miserable Years

I think that if I can just ignore the past couple of days that everything will be O.K. Yet, today I heard him speak about his plans for the next term. Every time I hear his voice, I lose hope.

I’ve been finding it difficult to understand how he won the election. I just can’t accept that people could be so ignorant. The issues that won the election for Bush were gay marriage and abortion. His stance on these issues drew out the evangelical to vote.

I can’t believe the bigotry in this country! Yet, somehow, it’s fitting that Bush is President. “If you’re not with us, you’re against us” is the epitome of bigotry.

The President asked for acceptance in the next four years. That is something that I cannot (nor will I ever attempt to) give him. He is the worst President in the history of this country - environmentally, economically, racially.

I sit here and think of what will come in the next four years. All I can think is that the terrorists that everyone has been talking about have achieved another victory.

Thanks to Elsie for making this post possible! I would have posted to my own site, but the machine has been retired.

Kerry

You may not understand completely in what ways, but it is true when I say to you that you have taught me and you've tested me and you've lifted me up, and you made me stronger, I did my best to express my vision and my hopes for America. We worked hard, and we fought hard, and I wish that things had turned out a little differently.

- John Kerry, Address to Supporters at Fanueil Hall

John, I wish that things had turned out a lot differently! I can't believe we have 4 more years with this moron. Better luck in '08.
