New Meaning

Silence speaks volumes. And this silence is very loud. I wonder if there is any meaning to our actions. I've heard that without the heart there can be no understanding between the hand and the mind. I'm not sure about any of this. I am debating contemplating whether or not this is adding meaning to my life, or taking away. I hope for the best, but I am afraid.

Good Day

Most days are a struggle but some days are so incredibly easy. Today I have no worries. I feel pretty good, even thought I barely slept last night. I have to call my advisor soon, though. My progress is being delayed *sigh* But I'm not worried.

I opened my fortune cookie that I grabbed on the way out of the Chinese restaurant on Saturday. Inside the fortune read, "You have the uncommon gift of common sense (in bed)." Yeah. That's right. It is surprisingly uncommon. Ironic, isn't it?

And if things
They work out
I'll continue
To seek
Happiness is
Happiness is
Happiness is
All around and worth the waiting
All around and worth the waiting

About Lost

Ben gaves one of the Others a cryptic order: bring him the man from Tallahassee. Elliott posed some very interesting questions.

Do you think that "The Man from Tallahassee" was Locke's father? Did they kidnap Locke's father or was it the island that brought him there? Maybe they're trying to manipulate Locke...

Whoa! I did not think of Locke's father as The Man From Tallehassee. It didn't even come to mind. After watching those flashbacks I was so angry with that man... and surpirsed to find him tied up in Ben's house. Even though just as Ben was revealing the suprise to Locke I asked, let it be his father! I guess I can control the universe with my mind, where the universe is a predictable plot twist. I'm not complaining, though. It was a kick-butt episode.

Also I am glad to know why Locke has been acting so flaky lately. He's afraid to get rescued because he might lose what the island has given to him. He's been sabotaging all efforts to get off the island!

Long Way Home

Vanessa Williams - Long Way Home Lyrics

It's hard to say from where you stand
Exactly when it all began
But someplace there's a point you cross the line
You see the tears than stain your face
Mirrored in your make-up case
And know it's time to leave this place behind

It's a long way home
It's a long way home
It's a long way home
Trying to retrace your steps
All too easy to forget
Just which way to go
It's a long way home

Outside the sky is threatening
You slowly gather up your things
And wonder how you ever will explain
Walking out so self-assured
Yeah, you were gonna change the world
Walking back, a child in the rain

It's a long way home
It's a long way home
It's a long way home
How can you retrace the steps
You've been trying to forget
Still it's time to go
And it's a long way home

And if you lose your way
Just keep your eye upon that endless broken line

Throw bag beneath the bus
Sit among the curious
It happens to the best of us, you know

It's a long way home
It's a long way home
It's a long way home
Starting to retrace your steps
You learn to live with your regrets
Next stop heaven knows
It's a long way home
Such a long way
It's a long way home

Adam Duritz

Adam Duritz is a pudgy troubadour! VH1 cited several of Adam's sexual liaisons to support his Best Week Ever award for being the Greatest Heterosexual Man Of Our Time!

Adam links to the VH1 site from his blog, but notice he does not deny the allegations... In fact he brags, from now on...call me "El Conquistador"! It's good to see he has a sense of humor about the whole thing.

Similar Beginning

I was just perusing my blog today. I watched the video for Don't Matter, thinking how much the beginning reminded me of the Jack Johnson video for Taylor. It's probably just the jeep that they have in common, but it's worth posting anyway...

Madonna's Thoughts

I added a new entry to my Blogrolling account. It is called Madonna's Thoughts, and it is a tribute to Madonna's contrabution to the media, given in the first person. It's pretty funny.

I know people think I'm flawless, but I am just like everyone else. I fart! I poop! Heck I even have bad hair days (I do have my own stylist so scratch that!) I eat food to survive (I have a chef to prepare my food though, but I still have to eat it!) You get the picture? Good!

Lostvivor

I was really excited to see Lost last night, but I'm starting to think that all the criticism is true. This show is going no where. Too bad I'm already addicted. I hope this show gets better before it gets worse. It was set up so well with such rich complex characters. But now is the time for action! Do something! I want answers!

I <3 Lostvivor!!! Thank you, Jess!

DOWNTOWN

I've been getting all excited to watch Lost tonight. I sang Downtown this morning, as I was getting ready for work. Matthew and Emily helped to sing along, with their own personal variations in the lyrics. Emily substituted "uptown" for "downtown" and Matthew sang "back home." We had a good morning.

I believe this song was playing while Juliet burned somthing in the oven and then got in a fight with Ben at the book club meeting, just before the fateful plane crash of Flight 815.

Tonight, the episode Enter 77 airs. Locke, Sayid and Kate investigate a strange structure and its mysterious inhabitant; Sawyer competes in a pingpong competition to get back his belongings.

I think the strange character is the guy with the patch on his eye... how mysterious! They just keep adding puzzles with no answers. Maybe tonight it will finally make sense. Don't hold your breath.

DOWNTOWN Petula Clark

When you're alone, and life is making you lonely
You can always go
Downtown

When you've got worries, all the noise and hurry
Seems to help, I know
Downtown

Just listen to the music of the traffic in the city,
Linger on the sidewalk where the neon signs are pretty
How can you lose? The lights are much brighter there...
You can forget all your troubles; forget all your cares, and go
Downtown -- things will be great when you're
Downtown -- you'll find a place for sure
Downtown -- everything's waiting for you

Downtown .... Downtown...

Don't hang around, and let your problems surround you,
There are movie shows
Downtown

Maybe you know some little places to go to
Where they never close
Downtown

Just listen to the rhythm of a gentle Bossa Nova
You'll be dancing with 'em too before the night is over,
Happy again...
The lights are much brighter there,
You can forget all your troubles; forget all your cares, and go
Downtown -- where all the lights are bright
Downtown -- waiting for you tonight
Downtown -- you're gonna be all right now...

Downtown...Downtown...Downtown...

Downtown!

Downtown!

New Meaning

Sometimes I like to look up a word in the dictionary that I already know. It is not to get the definition, pronunciation or correct spelling. It is to take a fresh look at the word or phrase.

hang–up ~ a source of mental or emotional difficulty; broadly: PROBLEM

Remembering

Some days, my life seems to flash before my eyes. It feels like I've had so many lives. I've changed so much. Not necessarily for the better. Not necessarily by choice. But these changes have made me who I am today. Each part of me has a history that no one knows but me. They remind me that I am an individual and I leave a footprint that no one else can fill. How strange now to find myself day after day sitting in a cubicle. Just remembering. That stinging sensation. Maybe I haven't changed.

I remember my English teacher, but I don't remember her name. She was a pretty blonde at the high school program at the local community college.

One day she gave me some advice. She said in a soft voice, "speak quietly and slowly as if every word you have to say is very very important."

We read Lady in Red, and wrote essays about the poem. As I read it today, I can still hear her voice.

lady in red

without any assistance or guidance from you
i have loved you assiduously for 8 months 2 wks & a day
i have been stood up four times
i've left 7 packages on yr doorstep
forty poems 2 plants & 3 handmade notecards i left
town so i cd send to you have been no help to me
on my job
you call at 3:00 in the mornin on weekdays
so i cd drive 27 1/2 miles cross the bay before I go to work
charmin charmin
but you are of no assistance
i want you to know
that this waz an experiment
to see how selfish i cd be

if i wd really carry on to snare a possible lover
if i waz capable of debasin my self for the love of another
if i cd stand not being wanted
when i wanted to be wanted
& i cannot
so
with no further assitance & no guidance from you
i am endin this affair

this note is attached to a plant i've been waterin since the day i met you
you may water it
yr damn self

Here's The Problem

Anything can fall apart at any time. Anything can be taken away. Nothing is taken for granted. All offers can become null and void without notice. That's how it seems... perhaps I need to change my ways of thinking.

But I cannot forget that nothing lasts forever. It's just like that poem, Nothing Gold Can Stay.

Nature's first green is gold,

Her hardest hue to hold.

Her early leaf's a flower;

But only so an hour.

Then leaf subsides to leaf.

So Eden sank to grief,

So dawn goes down to day.

Nothing gold can stay.
